I find that teaching children about the weather can be one of the most interesting and diverse topics you can bring up. Children of all ages are so intrigued and hands-on with the learning activities because it involves something so fascinating they don’t quite understand yet. Even kids that we work with, the 1 and 2 year olds, love learning about the weather and you can see the excitement and curiosity in their eyes when we they not only get to learn about the snow and rain and the sun, but also get to play in it. As we all very well know, children learn through play.
I have created a mini lesson plan with 6 different activities. For this plan, I have worked on creating 3 manipulatives, as well as 3 block activities. I created 6 different activities you can pick from for your 5-day lesson planning schedule for the week. If you don’t like any of the activities, that’s why I included an extra one as a bonus you and your little ones might enjoy. Waterfall Block Tower

For this toddler activity, we are looking at water and having so much fun at the sensory table. This is a block activity included in the pack. You can see we used our building blocks to construct a cliff and added water and cups to the bin so that the girls can pour water over the cliff and make a waterfall. This can constitute as a manipulative activity also as the children as practicing scooping and pouring, focusing, and counting.
Weather Block Matching Game
Weather Matching Puzzles
For this activity from the pack, we are looking at connecting puzzle pieces together with the same images on them. There are also words that represent the image; such as “Sunny” with the picture of a sun, or “Thunder Storm” with the picture of a cloud and thunder. The children can place their memory skills to the test and even learn problem solve.
