Fine Motor – Weather Theme Toddler Lesson Plan

I find that teaching children about the weather can be one of the most interesting and diverse topics you can bring up. Children of all ages are so intrigued and hands-on with the learning activities because it involves something so fascinating they don’t quite understand yet. Even kids that we work with, the 1 and 2 year olds, love learning about the weather and you can see the excitement and curiosity in their eyes when we they not only get to learn about the snow and rain and the sun, but also get to play in it. As we all very well know, children learn through play.

I have created a mini lesson plan with 6 different activities. For this plan, I have worked on creating 3 manipulatives, as well as 3 block activities. I created 6 different activities you can pick from for your 5-day lesson planning schedule for the week. If you don’t like any of the activities, that’s why I included an extra one as a bonus you and your little ones might enjoy. Solution:

I find that my work is the solution to many parents’ and caregivers’ struggles of finding entertaining and educational activities for their buddy toddlers. What you will also gain from this pack is time. As everything is already included, and listed for you to implement. There might be one or two things you might need to grab from the store, but otherwise, it is activities anyone can do in any setting.

Weather Clip Cards

For this activity from the pack, I ended up printing, laminating, and cutting these adorable cards. I had a pack of clothespins laying around that was just perfect for this activity. This is a great exercise to practice vocabulary, fine motor, and cognitive skills for identifying patterns. This pack comes with 8 different clip cards for your little ones to work on.

Weather Tracing

I had so much fun creating this resource for you. I just love this activity that helps toddlers learn to focus and build self-esteem. We all know that this age is still too young to truly learn how to write letters and words, but this is when they are able to start learning to grasp and build these small muscles of the hand. I did print, laminate, and cut these out as well. There are also 8 of these tracing cards in the pack.

Make a Rainbow

This is one of those activities from the pack that you do not need to purchase my pack in order to do at home. Just purchase a set of pipe cleaners with every color of the rainbow in it and some white playdough. I found this white air clay at my local dollar tree, very inexpensive. I found my kids had the most success with this when I showed them an image of what the intended activity was and practiced rolling the clay on the table with them. This is a great time to practice your colors and especially whatever color you are working on this week. Maybe you want to make a rainbow using only your color of the week.

I hope you found some of these activities useful and helpful. As always please leave any comments down below.
