Who Are These Lesson Plans Intended For?
This is the Construction theme lesson plan. If you are new around here, welcome! My name is Andrea and I make baby and toddler activities and lesson plans in easy to understand formats for home-based educational learning. I am set in Ohio so all of the activities use the Ohio Early Learning Standards which are intended for the younger age group of birth through 5 years old. Before kindergarten. These lesson plans are intended to be used an aid for educators of all backgrounds. It is my mission to give back parents’, teachers’, and home-based educators more than so they may be able to send it with family and friends instead of lesson planning.
This lesson plan was designed with the Ohio Early Learning Standards.
This is a digital product and nothing will be physically mailed to you. Thank you so much.

I created this wonderful lesson plan for one week in June. I thought it would be really cute to teach little ones about construction vehicles while the weather is a warm outside. One thing to note is that while a lot of these activities are better suited for toddlers and preschoolers and not babies, know that you can always find ways to modify them to make sense for you, your little one, and your situation. As always, Adult Supervision Is Recommended.
Weekly Construction Themed Lesson Plan Overview
The weekly lesson plan overview sheet will show you the entirety of the lesson plan on a Monday through Friday week length. I have divided activities between large groups and small groups, though it’s good to note that you can adjust these any way you need.
There are all “Special” activities which you can select one out of the 5 if you’d like, or try to do all 5. Essentially, these are activities that will help make the learning theme extra exciting and could make for a lovely photo opportunity. These activities might also take the longest to prep, which is why I recommend one so you don’t experience burnout. But more power to you if you decide to tackle this bad boy.
Outside activities are simply gross motor activities that can be done inside if the weather is not cooperating that day.

Small Group Activities
In this packet, you will find 10 different small group activities. All different. All targeting different learning strands. Pictured below is a sample activity sheet from the packet. All of the activities will have this format.
This activity is called Construction Pom Pom Color Sort. You will give the children bowls or containers of different colors. I simply used the food bowls. Next, you find pom poms the same color as the bowls. Place it all into a bin or tray, add some construction vehicle toys for your child to practice scooping and pushing, and lifting with the toys. They may work on fine motor or math sorting skills, for example.
For any activity that requires some form of prep work, I provide a quick note at the bottom of each activity sheet to let you know ahead of time that if you need something NOW, that activity may not be the one to do that day. It will say “prep work required” at the bottom.
Each activity will give you 3 options to pick from regarding the learning strand. That way, if you already have a math activity, you can still do this one under a different strand.
Large Group Activities
Large group activities while designed to be executed in a large ground, can easily be molded to fit any group of children.
Each lesson page will have a materials list for each activity. You can print the sheets if your format requires it and even date them as needed. There is space on the bottom for any teacher’s note you might need. A helpful picture can be found in the bottom corner to give additional insight into how this activity can be accomplished.
I use the Tadpoles app to communicate with parents and do everything I have to do as far as the children’s learning space. The parents are able to see what activities we are doing and even attach a picture with it. I have written an activity description for you. If your teaching format is anything like mine, I use activity descriptions on Taddpoles to let parents know what we are working on. Along with tagging the Ohio Learning Standard, the child is targeting during the activity, I modify the description to fit the parents who are reading it.

Special Activities
Special Activities work as a way to help educators spice up the week. You can call these the bougie activities of the lesson plan packet. While you only need to select one of the activities, try a fun challenge of seeing if you can complete all 5.
One of the special activities in this packet is a Show & Tell activity. You can get the parents involved and informed them of when you’ll be having Show & Tell, and what items are appropriate to bring into the educational setting. Since the theme is construction, allow the children to bring construction toys, books, or even a fun costume from home for the day.
You can find this at Teachers Pay Teachers Construction Theme Lesson Plan.
Outside Activities
There are 5 gross motor activities provided here, which can be done indoors. Just in case the weather is not cooperating for you. Again, you may need to adjust certain activities to match your child’s age-appropriate capabilities.
Some of the outdoor activities in this packet include building with “giant” blocks. In truth, it’s taking lots and lots of cardboard boxes and giving them to the children to work on team-building, language, and gross motor just as much as problem-solving.
You can’t forget about the Construction Movement Cards. These fun-themed moving cards can also be found inside of the lesson plan. There are 10 cards in all, with different actions your little ones can try to master.
You can find all of these activities in the Construction Theme Lesson Plan.
Ohio Early Learning Standards
The Ohio Early Learning Standards are designed to meet developmental goals for children ages birth through 5 years old. You can find development domains such as Approaches to Learning (which focuses on unique experiences), cognitive, creative, language and literacy, math, physical and wellness, science, social/emotional, and social studies.
All of these items go into detail for my friends outside of the state and others who might be entirely familiar with the framework. With easy to understand description of each strand and how they can be incorporated into every activity in the lesson plan.
I have found that a lot of the domains are similar to those outside of Ohio, meaning my teacher friends might have an easier time than expected to change any item.
